Gasoline has become a necessity as it is the source of transportation. However, each gallon of gasoline requires about 13 gallons of water.

Kitchen faucets tend to be the place where water is freely used, anywhere from cooking to cleaning. Because of the fast-paced American life, it is a natural tendency to want to speed up tasks, including the flow of water, which contributes to its wastage.

As water is becoming more of a shortage, it is imperative to conserve as much water as possible; and the best way to do this is starting at home.

About 19% of water used comes from faucets. Although that may not seem a lot, it adds up to the projected water scarcity.

The average family can waste 180 gallons per week, or 9,400 gallons of water annually, from household leaks. That's equivalent to the amount of water needed to wash more than 300 loads of laundry.

It takes 3.3 acres feet of water to grow enough food for an average family for a year.

Flying from Los Angeles to San Francisco, about 700 miles round-trip, could cost more than 9,000 gallons of water, or enough for almost 2,000 average dishwasher loads.

We can all use at least 20 percent less water by installing water-efficient fixtures and appliances.

It is estimated that by 2040, one in four of the world’s children under 18 – some 600 million in all – will be living in areas of extremely high water stress.

A dairy cow must drink four gallons of water to produce one gallon of milk.
